Celebrating Over A Century of Community Service: The Legacy of Lyons Pharmacy

Established in 1894 by Andrew Lincoln Lyon, Lyons Pharmacy holds the prestigious title of being one of Havre de Grace’s oldest businesses, and the oldest pharmacy in Maryland. Steeped in history and tradition, our journey began at 330 St. John Street, nestled in a triangular-shaped building that witnessed the bustling life of the late 19th century. George Taylor Lyon, a prominent figure in the local community, paved the way for Lyon’s Pharmacy, transitioning from a ship’s chandlery to a thriving pharmaceutical establishment.

Throughout its illustrious history, Lyons Pharmacy has been a beacon of resilience and dedication, weathering challenges and adapting to the evolving needs of its customers. In 1899, the pharmacy faced adversity when robbers absconded with a cache of cigars, a testament to the trials of the time. However, Lyon’s unwavering commitment to serving the community prevailed, marking the beginning of a legacy built on trust and reliability.
